TOM BAXTER

SONY

I’ve been a fan Tom’s music since seeing stumbling across him doing a residency at Bush Hall in West London, not long after the release of his first Columbia album ‘Feather And Stone’. My appreciation of his talent as a singer, lyricist, guitarist and songwriter was further re-enforced on hearing Dame Shirley Bassey’s rendition of his powerful torch song Almost There. We struck up a musical and personal friendship some years later.

Over 2016 and 2017 in both London and Los Angeles Tom and I collaborated on a number of songs for his latest album ‘The Other Side Of Blue’.  It’s a beautifully sparse affair, free of production camouflage - the music is rendered honest in its stark exposure. Final co-write inclusions were murder ballad Cold, a paean to the hopelessness of love Heroes and Monsters, a tale of life-long friendship One Life and Do You Know Me - a re-work of a song idea we’d originally sketched for singer Milly Pye.
